Before anyone discusses a market, the Silom room is already set. Each place has a board, a pencil, and the printed sheets for that sitting. The copper lamp is aimed at the paper. Burgundy cloth keeps the glare off the weekly bars.

What you will find on the table

A weekly sheet and, when the sitting calls for it, a daily sheet underneath. A journal with four column headings and otherwise blank pages. An eraser, because the first trough is often the wrong one. Coats go on the rail by the door so the boards stay clear. Twelve chairs face the long table for the intensive. The morning room uses the near end only. Private briefs use the side table under the smaller lamp.

Thursday, minute by minute

  1. 18:30

    The door on Silom opens. You confirm the market you named when you wrote to the desk. Switching markets at the door means working on a sheet that was printed for someone else, so the academy asks you to decide in the days before.

  2. 18:45

    Silence. Ten minutes to mark the last swing without help. This is the page the instructor wants to see, including the messy margin.

  3. 19:00

    One historical cycle on the shared board. The point is the order of operations: troughs first, crest between them, week-count, and only then a word for accumulation, advance, distribution, or decline.

  4. 19:40

    Pairs. You compare troughs. If you cannot explain your low to the person beside you, it is not ready for the journal.

  5. 20:10

    The cancellation mark. One price or one week-count. You read it quietly and stop editing it.

  6. 20:40

    Questions that fit in the remaining minutes. The room is empty at 21:00 so the last skytrain is still a civil option.

What to bring

A pencil you like, and an eraser. Two years of weekly bars if you keep them. The academy prints sheets for anyone who does not. The board is the width of the paper, so the ten quiet minutes stay on the sheet in front of you.
